Messages from the Superintendent

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community,

If the pandemic has shown us anything, it’s the importance of relationships; friends, family, neighbors, and our school community have come together like never before. We were reminded of the importance of our schools as a place of learning and support for our students and families. Our campuses wouldn't be open now without your support.

The pandemic has made the work of running schools much more complicated. In many ways, we must now function as a health department — something schools have never been asked to do before — while also continuing our efforts to connect students with the resources they need for learning and growth.

One thought that might be on your mind is the new vaccines for children ages 5-11. We have an informational video for parents in English and Spanish, provided by the Sonoma County Health Department, on our website.  Brook Haven will be holding vaccination clinics for youth starting in mid-November with the second shot in early December.

Your family choice is your family choice. The Governor has proposed mandating this vaccine, but with a personal exemption.  SUSD does not currently have a formal stance on this, as it is a State Health Department issue. Please reach out if you have any questions. In the meantime, the video is available and we will have a webinar to field more questions with a doctor coming soon in English and Spanish.

Thank you for your support as we work together to keep our community safe and our schools open.
